LAHORE – The Punjab Government’s Search Committee for the appointment of Punjab University’s Vice-Chancellor will complete interviews of short listed candidates today (Tuesday).

Sources said that on Monday, the committee comprising Syed Babar Ali and Sartaj Aziz, Punjab Higher Education Department Secretary Dr Ijaz Munir and others conducted interviews of 15 candidates including Dr Mujahid Kamran. The committee will move the summary to the Punjab Chief Minister on Wednesday.

The sources said that the Punjab Higher Education Department also moved a summery for acting vice chancellor of PU to the CM as the four-year tenure of Dr Mujahid Kamran has ended on Monday. The sources said that the department recommended the name of Dr Mujahid for acting vice chancellor. They further said that the CM approved the name and moved the summary to the Punjab Governor.

On the other side, PU sources alleged that on the last working day, Dr Mujahid Kamran has obliged many people belonging to his group by appointing their relatives. They said that a PU selection board meeting was held on December 28 wherein 30 candidates were appeared for the lecturers’ posts in PU Institute of Mass Communication. They said more than 15 candidates could not appear before selection board as the call letters were issued at the eleventh hour (on the evening of December 27). They further said the selection board was held without the relevant institute’s director which was sheer violation of university calendar.
