QUETTA - The nationalists have expressed their dissatisfaction over the announcements made by PPP for bettering Balochistan situation and the efforts of PML-N leadership by holding meetings with seasoned nationalist leaders so that their influence could be utilised for normalisation.

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani declared 2012 as the year of Balochistan while Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and other top leadership of PML-N had met Sardar Attaullah Mengal in Karachi last month with a request that he may use his influence for normalcy in province.

When contacted, Baloch nationalist leader Sardar Attaullah Mengal said President Asif Ali Zardari did not need to resolve Balochistan issue because he had obtained his personal objectives. Asked about the personal objectives of Zardari, he said the PPP Co-chairman had become the president.

About his meeting with Nawaz Sharif, he said he had apprised Nawaz Sharif about all the atrocities and injustices in Balochistan. “Nawaz Sharif had admitted all those excesses what were pointed out by me” he added. He said seriousness and earnest efforts were needed for resolving the issue of Balochistan but such efforts were completely missing. “The Balochs are being subjected to excesses. They are tolerating all the pains because of these excesses. All others are spectators,” he said, adding that suppressors of Balochs are the rulers of this country but nobody is taking their name.

Similarly, commenting of the situation of Balochistan, President of National Party Senator Dr Abdul Malik Baloch said that announcements regarding Balochistan were merely rhetoric and these were made only to deceive the people.

He said that if Nawaz Sharif was serious in solving Balochistan issue then he should exert pressure on the establishment for paving a way for solution to problems of Balochistan through dialogue.

Not only nationalist leaders are not satisfied with these announcements but the coalition partners of govt of government are also not happy with these announcements.

Maulana Abdul Waseh, the senior minister and parliamentary leader of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam a coalition partner in PPP, criticised the federal government in recent session of Balochistan Assembly.

He expressed suspicions about Gilani’s statement on declaring 2012 as the year of Balochistan.

He said whenever the federal rulers made any announcement about Balochistan, the results proved contrary. He added this could be gauged from the fact that tall claims were made about giving more funds to Balochistan but contrary to it only Rs7 billion out of Rs34 billion were released for federal projects in Balochistan.
