LAHORE: Punjab University Dr Asad Shabbir, Assistant Professor at the Department of Botany, was declared the “2013 Young Scientist” by the Asian Pacific Weed Science Society (APWSS) at the 24th APWSS Conference held recently in Bandung, Indonesia.

The award is given to a young, high achieving weed science scientist who has made a significant contribution to weed science in the Asian-Pacific region.  The award consisted of a shield, a certificate and $500 US, and was presented by the APWSS President, Steve Adkins. Dr Shabbir has recently completed his PhD studies from the University of Queensland, Australia.

The PU awarded 3 PhD degrees to the scholars in which Ghazala Roohi d/o Muhammad Zafarullah in the subject of Zoology after approval of her thesis entitled “Comparative Studies on Enamel Hypoplasia in the Siwalik Rhinocerotidae (Mammalia)”, , Ruhma Rehman D/o Abdul Rehman in the subject of Biology after approval of her thesis entitled “Regenerative Potential of Placental Stem Cells for the Repair of Demanged Skin” and Nisar Ali in the subject of Physics after approval of his thesis entitled “Synthesis and Characterization of Metal Based Chalcogenide thin Films for Solar cell Application”.–Staff Reporter
