CALIFORNIA  - Behind The Candelabra, Steven Soderbergh’s biopic documenting the love affair between lavish piano man, Liberace, and his turbulent love affair with Scott Thorson, was one of the most popular films of 2013, not just because of Michael Douglas and Matt Damon’s genius comedic turns as the eccentric drama queens, but for the totally OTT costumes.

Bursting at the seams with gobstopper diamonds, dripping in gold and trimmed with enough crystals, feathers, brocade and general chintzery to keep Liza Minelli, Michael Jackson, Elizabeth Taylor and Elton John happy, Liberace, the fashion icon, was born again. And here are just two of his biggest admirers - Rihanna and Miley Cyrus - popping out for a New Year’s Eve drink dressed in homage to the one-time world’s highest paid entertainer.

Both ladies are known for their love of an attention-grabbing outfit almost as much as their music - in fact, much more than her music in Miley’s case - so a fur coat big enough to (literally) camp out in, was just another day in the office for this pair. Quite frankly, Miley could have made more of an effort to do her tribute look due justice, teaming her frothy pelt with a pair of scruffy old biker boots.

Rihanna meanwhile went for a head-to-toe homage, complete with a shiny, satin pantsuit, bright pink, bejewelled-buckle shoes, a rhinestone-studded headband and fingers stacked with massive cocktail rings. All that was missing was a purple rinse and a candelabra.
