RAWALPINDI - A family foiled house robbery attempt by overwhelming two armed robbers when one of them accidentally shot his accomplice during a scuffle with the family head in the area of Police Station RA Bazaar here on Saturday.

Later, the robbers were handed over to police, who shifted the injured one to District Headquarter Hospital (DHQ) for medical treatment. A case has been registered against the accused.

The robbers were identified as Yousaf, a resident of Mandi Bahawuldin, and Jamil, a resident of Sirai Alamgir.

According to police, the two intruders jumped into the house of one Mirza Muhamamd Shakil near 6:30 a.m. and made the family head Mirza Shakil hostage at gunpoint. Meanwhile, Mirza tried to snatch pistol from Yousaf, which went off and hit his accomplice Jamil.

Hearing the noise of firing, the son of the family head also reached the spot and captured the other robber whereas the other family members and neighbours also came forward to help them out, police added. The family members called police and handed over the dacoits.

Sub Inspector Muhammad Ashraf, who handling the case, told that the detainee robber Yousaf in his initial statement disclosed that he tried to loot the family to get money for the medical treatment of his wife, who had admitted in a hospital in Gujrat. Police would produce the detainee robber before a court today (Sunday) to get his physical remand, the SI added.
