ISLAMABAD  - The much awaited and much talked about meeting between Jamiat Ulema-I-Islam chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) President Mian Nawaz Shairf would likely take place today (Monday), but the political analysts are not much optimistic about the outcome seeing the developments of the past few days.

Meeting between the two party heads was put off for a few times due to busy schedule of Mian Nawaz Sharif and the sources in PML-N said that it was still the tentative schedule, which could change keeping in view some other pressing engagements of the party chief.

In an informal chat with The Nation and on condition of anonymity, some PML-N leaders said that in the given situation when the party was having comfortable majority to form government at centre without the clutches of any other party or group, the alliance with JUI-F went down the priority list of the party and that was the reason Mian Nawaz Sharif was giving cold shoulder to Maulana Fazlur Rehman but the latter was clinging with him and eager to board the government's bandwagon.

These leaders said that initially JUI-F was in high air and wanted to have share in the Balochistan government as well but when the nationalist parties from the province had flatly refused to sit with Maulana in coalition government Mian Nawaz Sharif had preferred PkMP and NP over Maulana and the team negotiating power sharing with JUI-F had plainly told them that they would not be given any share in the Balochistan government.

It is pertinent to mention here that Mian Nawaz Sharif had also turned down the suggestion of Maulana Fazlur Rehman to form coalition government in Khyber-Pakhtunkhawa and preferred to honour the mandate of the parties which had secured more seats than JUI-F and their party(PML-N).

The delaying tactics on the part of Mian Nawaz Sharif to meet Maulana Fazlur Rehman and the way latter is being ignored by the former clearly showed that PML-N was in no mood to share power with JUI-F and the chances of some breakthrough in their talks, if held on Monday(today), are minimal.

On the other hand Maulana Fazlur Rehman has gone extra mile to become part of the PML-N government in centre and that was the reason JUI-F leadership had decided to vote the PML-N candidates for the slot of Speaker and Deputy Speaker.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that the final decision on becoming part of the government or to sit on the opposition benches would be made on June 4(Tuesday) after having final word with Mian Nawaz Sharif on terms and conditions of alliance between the two parties.
