ISLAMABAD (Online) Chief of Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has said that the backbone of terrorists has been broken and the operation Rah-e-Nijat is proceeding along successfully. He expressed these views in a meeting held with Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani at the PM House on Monday in which matters related to overall security situation in the country, operation Rah-e-Nijat in South Waziristan, current wave of terrorism, and professional matters of Pakistan Army was discussed in length, sources told Online. The COAS took into PM into confidence on the targets achieved so far in operation Rah-e-Nijat. According to sources, Kayani told Gilani that the South Waziristan operation had entered a decisive phase and was a success, as the terrorists backbone had been broken. He said the army was achieving its objectives and targets in the offensive and national security would be ensured at all costs. Sources say Premier Gilani while expressing his satisfaction over the outcome of the operation Rah-e-Nijat said the terrorists were termites of the society who would be countered at all cost and all resources would be utilised for their elimination. He went on to say that terrorists were the enemies of humanity having no fear of God, adding that they were targeting innocent people after panicking due to the tightening of noose around them. Sources say the prime minister and the COAS also condemned the Mondays barbaric bombing in Rawalpindi.
