OUR STAFF REPORTER LALAMUSA - Federal Defence Minister Ch Ahmed Mukhtar has said that The All Parties Conference (APC) has given a message to the world that the entire nation despite our internal political differences is united to defend the mother land. Pakistan is a responsible and peace-loving country having no designs of aggression against others but if we are pushed against the wall, we will have no other choice except to defend our country and that we will do with all our might, he resolved. He expressed these views while addressing Gujrat Chamber of Commerce and Industrys annual general meeting. After administrating oath to newly-elected office-bearers of the GCCI he also said that our nuclear arsenals and related infrastructure was most secure rather more than the thought of the world. The minister reiterated that the defence of the country was in strong hands and secure and if any one had misconception in this regard, he should remove it. He further maintained that the power crisis was badly affecting our economy therefore suitable and serious steps have to be taken to overcome the problem. He said that thermal power costs Rs 12 per unit, nuclear generated Rs3.70 whereas hydropower casts Rs1.40. Therefore the govt was taking serious steps to provide electricity within the reach of common man and industry. He also claimed that power theft and non payment of power bills were the major reasons of on going power loadshedding. He said that electricity, gas was not stolen usually by commoner rather these were big fish which rob the nation. He confided that government was striving for the increase of hydle and coal generated power production instead of Thermal power, he concluded. Earlier, he was given a rousing reception when he reached the evenue. He also administered oath to newly elect office-bearers of GCCI.
