OUR STAFF REPORTER NOORPUR THAL - The District Health Department has launched 'eradicating dengue campaign (Qadam Barhao Dengue Mukao) here to create awareness among the masses about how to eliminate the deadly virus by keeping their houses, streets, bazaars and surroundings neat and clean. Deputy District Health Officer Dr Mian Muhammad Tahir has called on citizens to make collective efforts and take precautionary measures to eliminate the menace of dengue. He was speaking during public awareness campaign here the other day. TMO Raja Zahoor Ahmad was also present on the occasion. Dr Muhammad Tahir said that this fever highly affects those who have low immunity system. He said that dengue virus is very easily treatable under special treatment measures. He highlights the history of dengue virus and said that in Pakistan this virus first attacked in 1984 in Karachi. He added that there was no need to afraid of this virus but to follow the proper protective measures. He said that filth depots and heaps of garbage were some of the major sources of mosquito growth. Dr Mian Muhammad Tahir said the Qadam Baraho, Dengue Mukao campaign will be succeeded with the cooperation of the public. He urged the local NGOs to come forward and participate in the awareness programme. On the occasion, replaying to a question of medimen, he said that there was no dearth of medicines in the govt hospital. Govt to promote kitchen gardening: Deputy District Agriculture Thal Rana Khan Bahader Javed has urged the people of Thal to take interest in kitchen gardening programme which will not only help them fulfill their needs for vegetables but also result in overcoming the shortage of vegetables in the country. He was addressing kitchen gardening seminar headed by EDO Agriculture Tajmal Hussain. A large numbers of people from all walks of life participated in the ceremony. He said that those interested in kitchen gardening should be encouraged so that maximum vegetables in cities and suburban areas as well as at state land, parks, spare land of educational institutions and other places could be grown to help increase production of vegetables and stabilize their prices. Rana Khan Bahder further said that with the cooperation of DCO Syed Gulzar Hussain Shah, Agriculture Department was trying best to facilitate the farmers of Thal in this connection.
