KARACHI - Police claimed to have arrested at least nine alleged target killers and extortionists affiliated with MQM and Lyari gangsters in targeted operation here on Wednesday.

Two target killers were arrested from Maripur area. Their arrests were disclosed during a press conference held by District West Police Chief DIG Javed Odho.

DIG Odho claimed that the arrested target killers, including Fida Hussain alias Billo Dhamaka and Mehboob Ali alias Painter are associated with the MQM. They were involved in a number of cases of target killings especially in Saeedabad and Madina Colony areas of Baldia Town.

Odho claimed that accused persons were arrested when the Maripur Police conducted a raid on a tip-off at their hideout in Musharraf Colony area of Maripur. Police claimed to have recovered five tennis ball bombs, one Kalashnikov and a 7mm rifle from their possession. DIG Odho briefed the media about the arrests of three alleged members of Lyari gang war during separate raids in Mochko and SITE areas. The gangsters were identified as Junaid aka Sunny, Zar Shah and Azeem Sikander.

He also informed that another target killer Liaquat aka KESC was arrested from New Karachi area by Bilal Colony police. He was involved in target killings of ASI Ejaz Ahmed Khokhar and a political worker Kamran Bandhani from New Karachi area.

Separately, Special Investigation Unit of the Karachi police claimed to have arrested three suspects allegedly involved in a number of extortion cases in the metropolis. The arrested suspects were identified as Imran Saeed, Ghulam Mustafa and Abid Ali. They belonged to Shahid Bikkik group of Lyari gangsters and were arrested near MA Jinnah on a tip-off.  SIU chief SP Naveed Khawaja while addressing a press conference said the arrested suspects were involved in more than 45 cases of extortion, adding that recently, they attacked an ice cream parlor owns by the nephew of the president Mamnoon Hussain near Light House on MA Jinnah Road.
