ISLAMABAD - Agricultural scientists should play their significant role for dissemination of research results at the door steps of farmers to increase per acre yield of crops.

This was stated by Federal Minister for National Food Security & Research (NFS&R) Sikandar Hayat Khan Bosan while presiding over a briefing session of Agricultural Scientists on “Biotechnological Perspective in Crop Productivity” here at Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) Headquarters.

The meeting was attended by senior officers of Ministry of National Food Security and Research, Chairman PARC Dr Iftikhar Ahmad, Technical Members / DG NARC and senior scientists of PARC, Junaid Watoo, Secretary (Fisheries Development Board) Islamabad, Dr Shahid Mansoor, Director (NIBGE) Faisalabad and Dr Tayyab Hussain, Director (CAMB) Lahore. Speaking at this occasion Sikandar Hayat Bosan Khan has emphasised the agricultural scientists that farmer’s friendly technologies may be devised to achieve food security and alleviate poverty goals.

He stressed the agricultural scientists that to focus on Balochistan Province to increase the income of the small farmers and generate employment. Sikandar Hayat Bosan said that small farmers in the rural areas do not know about research organisation.

Therefore, scientists required to reach the farmers for transfer of technologies through demonstrations and other means to build image of the organisation. Bosan said that bio-technology system cannot run without water so keeping in view the shortage of water in future, there is need to bring such varieties that have resistance against diseases and can grow with less water.

He asked the scientists to develop marketing system so that farmers must get due reward of their produce. Dr Iftikhar Ahmad, Chairman PARC decisively reviewed the briefing given by Junaid Watoo, Secretary (Fisheries Development Board) Islamabad, Dr. Shahid Mansoor, Director (NIBGE) Faisalabad and Dr. Tayyad Hussain, Director (CAMB) Lahore.
