Police on Wednesday claimed to have eliminated a “hardened criminals’ den” in Bahawalnagar after a grand operation.

Ashqi Machi gang had established a ‘no go area‘ in the district since long. In the past, the police operations remained unsuccessful to rid the area of the gang. The gang got penetration in Junejo Quarters area where no one dared to enter into.

Even policemen had to retreat during the earlier operations. But the incumbent District Police Officer Athar Ismail accepted the challenge and mustered up courage to conduct a new operation against the suspects.  He constituted a team led by DSP Khawar Zaman lodhi and assigned them with the task. The police team made desperate efforts against the gang and succeeded to nab the “outlaws”. The police also seized several kgs of narcotics and illegal weapons from their possession and put them behind bars.

Talking to The Nation, the DPO praised the police performance. On the occasion, Anjuman Tajiran President Dilshad, Chaudhry Shafiq, former president of Kissan Board Muhammad Hussain, District Bar Association President Masoodur Rasheed and others also praised the police bravery.

FUND SET UP: The Student Benevolent Fund for the welfare of students of the Islamia University, Bahawalpur has been launched. The special fund will be implemented from the Fall Semester-2013 of the university and under this programme, all the university students have to deposit Rs.100/- per semester and Faculty members Rs.200/- per semester for this fund. This special fund will be utilized for the treatment of any under study student of the university in case of any chronic disease or for the financial support of parents of any demised under study student of the university.

Islamia University, Bahawalpur is the first one university of the country where this kind of Benevolent Fund has been introduced for the welfare of the students. The social circles, students, faculty members, students and staff of the university have hailed the Vice-Chancellor, IUB/GSCWU, Bahawalpur and members of the IUB Syndicate’s sympathetic  step and termed it a healthy sign for the improvement of students welfare and promotion of education.
