KARACHI  - At least four cops were wounded in an ambush by the TTP in Gulshan-e-Maymar area of Sohrab Goth police station on Wednesday.

The incident took place when the Sohrab Goth police barged into the Maymar Complex area of Sohrab Goth to conduct targeted raid when operatives of TTP attacked the police party. As police reached close to the hideout of the terrorists, they opened fire on them and also hurled at least four hand grenades at the police. Resultantly, additional SHO of the Sohrab Goth, sub-inspector Shoaib and three police personnel were wounded. The injured cops were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, however, the terrorists were managed to escape during an exchange of fire.

Following the attack, extra contingent of law enforcers, including the police, rangers and Rapid Response Force reached the site and conducted door-to-door search operation. During the operation, security forces claimed to have held around 22 suspects and weapons were also recovered from the possession of few suspects.  They also claimed to have recovered an abducted boy who was kidnapped from Sultanabad area of Manghopir. DSP Khalid Khan said during the operation, Rangers’ uniforms, rangers caps, security guards’ uniforms, two Kalashnikovs and a pistol were also recovered.

Meanwhile, police claimed to have arrested a man and recovered explosive material from his possession on Wednesday. The accused was identified as Nawaz. His arrest was made when the police raided his house in Islamia Colony of Orangi Town on a tip-off. SHO Abdul Moeed said the police had also recovered chemicals used in making bombs, detonators, ball bearings and wires.

He said the arrested accused would be an expert in bomb making. The accused is affiliated with the banned religious outfit but police have yet to disclose the name of the religious outfit. A case against him was registered while further investigation was underway.
