ISLAMABAD -  National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has announced free-of-cost duplicate CNICs to those earthquake affectees who have lost their original ones in Awaran district and other areas of Balochistan.

The decision had been made in a bid to speed up the government’s efforts for rehabilitation and relief, a spokesperson of NADRA said. NADRA’s registration centres in the vicinity have been directed to make special arrangements for providing computerised CNICs on war-footing to expand and reinforce federal and provincial governments’ relief activities in a transparent and efficient manner, she added.Chairman NADRA Tariq Malik on the special directives of Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Ch Nisar Ali Khan visited the quake-hit region on Tuesday in order to assess the operational activities being carried out by the authority in Awaran district. While instructing the NADRA staff he said this catastrophe poses a challenge and demands extra efforts and support for the rehabilitation of affected people. Scores of people have been displaced due to a series of devastating earthquakes in the region. He said NADRA would make all out efforts to give them a helping hand. NADRA office in tehsil Mashkay was erased completely due to earthquake however; office in Awaran was seriously damaged. The district office in Awaran is now back in business with the help of employees who have lost their own homes. Malik appreciated the patriotic spirit of the employees who in short span of time made Awaran NRC (National Registration Centre) functional. Earlier, he handed over a truck fully loaded with eatables sent specially by Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan for the earthquake-affected people of Tehsil Mashkay.

The chairman NADRA stated that NADRA would provide free of cost duplicate CNICs to the citizens badly affected and displaced in the wake of back-to-back earthquakes so that they could get benefits as and when the government launches new schemes. The quake-hit affected citizens don’t need to bring any document. They just need to approach NADRA Registration Centre in Awaran or spot NADRA mobile registration vans and man-pack units to apply for CNICs. We will gather biometrics (digital fingerprints and snapshot) of citizens, their father/mother name and address for the identification of CNIC number and accordingly, will trace their CNICs in the database. No one will be able to apply for a reprint of someone else’s card.

Malik also disclosed that NADRA’s software engineers have developed the software, which will capture name, father’s name, date of birth, address and biometric information of the affected people and will locate lost CNIC. Mobile registration vans (MRVs) fitted with state-of-art computer and communication equipment are being deployed along with man-pack units. “We are pulling our resources from areas which were lucky to have been saved from this havoc and deploy these extra resources in Awaran”, said chairman. NADRA. The chairman directed DG NADRA Balochistan Brig. Lodhi to remain in District Awaran during relief operation.

NADRA local teams will work with Pakistan Army and NDMA to do damage assessment survey in rehabilitation services.
