OUR STAFF REPORTER KARACHI - At least eight people including a Navy officer and activist of Pakistan Peoples Party were killed in separate incidents of target killing and violence on Eidul Fitr. A lieutenant commander and his friend were shot dead in North Karachi in Sir Syed police precincts. The incident took place at Sector 11-B, North Karachi where Lieutenant Commander Nasir, 35, son of Nafees, was going home after offering the Asr prayers from Noor Islam Mosque with his friend namely Iqbal, 40, son of Ashiq. Two armed assailants reached on motorcycle and opened indiscriminate fire on them. Resultantly Nasir received one bullet on his head and died on the spot, while his friend received bullet on his chest. The culprits managed to escape easily from the scene. The body was transported to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medicolegal formalities where Iqbal succumbed to his injuries. SHO Changaiz Khan said Nasir was the officer of Pakistan Navy and he was deployed in Dockyard. He came to North Karachi to meet with his mother on Eidul Fitr, when the assailants targeted him. Changaiz said police recovered empty shells of 9MM pistol from the spot. Police had registered an FIR against unidentified men on the complaint of victims brother Yawar. District Central SSP Asim Qaimkhani on behalf of provincial government announced Rs one million as reward for the information of culprits. Meanwhile, a PPP activist was shot dead in Sector 9-A, Orangi Town in the remits of Orangi Town police station. Police said that the victim Rashid, 36, son of Basheer, was sitting at his mobile shop when two armed culprits came on motorcycle and after exchanging hot words they opened fire on him. Rashid sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot. Tension engulfed the surrounding areas and all shops were closed due to uncertain condition of the locality. Police said the victim was unmarried and might be killed over personal enmity. The body was shifted to ASH for legal formalities and handed over to his family. Moreover, a man was shot dead while his brother injured near Rado Apartment in the jurisdiction of Gulistan Jauhar police station. According to police, the deceased Arbab Mirza, 30, son of Tahir Mirza, was the resident of Block-14, Rado Apartments, Gulistan Jauhar. He was standing in front of his apartment with his younger brother Rizwan when unidentified armed assailants came and opened fire on them. Both of them received bullet injuries. Police shifted them to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where Arbab succumbed to his injuries. Police officials said the victim had no affiliation with any political or religious party. Meanwhile, a body of woman was found from a local farmhouse located at Super Highway in the limits of Gulshan Maymar police station. DSP Iftikhar Lodhi said that deceased died after consuming poisonous liquor, adding that she arrived along with three other youths who had been escaped. Lodhi said that police had detained the watchman of the farmhouse and also conducting raids to arrest the culprits. Police also recovered four boxes of fast food and also found some packets of cigarettes from them room. The body of the woman was shifted to ASH and after post-mortem moved to Edhi morgue. Later the victim was identified as Nadia, wife of Irfan. Police said Irfan gave divorce to her few months ago because of her character. Police had started tracing the three young men and initiated probe into the case. Police found a tortured-mark body of a youth from Mauripur Road near railway crossing in the precincts of Docks police station. The identity of the victim was yet to be ascertained. He appears to be Baloch. Police shifted the body to CHK for post-mortem and later moved to Edhi morgue. Separately a man was shot dead near Mira Naka in the remits of Sher Shah police station. Meanwhile a teenager girl namely Areesha, 17, daughter of Abdul Rasheed, who received bullet injuries in Chakiwara on Chand Raat, succumbed to her injuries at CHK on the first day of Eid.
