AEN Railway M Rehan has said that Haripur safety embankment near Wazirabad has been repaired at a cost of Rs 5 million while all the installations are safe and sound.

The AEN stated that some 125-feet portion of Haripur safety bund was washed away during 2013 flood and rainwater. The government had released Rs5 million for repair of 16,400 feet long, 17 feet high and 16 feet wide embankment. The smashed portion of the bund and pitches on it have been refilled and compacted with the coordination of Irrigation Department, TMA Wazirabad and local administration. Many steps have been taken to strengthen the embankment, he added.

“All Railways installations including three bridges of Nullah Palkhu, Gammon and Chenab are safe as these were checked completely after flood warning,” he said.

He noted that the installations of Railways near River Chenab had no danger from flood or rains. However, natural disaster can take place even in developed countries any time.He added the Bridge Department has been asked for renovation of bridges. To a query, he stated that the decision of reopening of Wazirabad Faisalabad Railway Section will be taken by the high-ups. But, he expressed hope the rail traffic will be restored after the bridge is reconstructed.
