A total of 61 cases AIDS have been detected so far in various parts of Azad Jammu & Kashmir and all othe patients have been referred and admitted to AID Treatment Centre in Islamabad", disclosed AJK Health Services DG Dr Abdul Qadoos Akhtar.

The AJK Health Services DG unveiled the figure while talking to this reporter here the other day. Dr Qadoos said that of these AIDS patients 12 belong to Mirpur and seven from Kotli districts. He pointed out that most of the AIDS patients reported in Mirpur division, were expatriates living in European and Middle East countries in connection with the employment. Dr Qadoos pointed out that all the cases were referred to the country's premier AIDS Treatment Centre at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad where they were under treatment.

The AJK Health Authorities, he concluded, were striving hard to overcome and avert the threat of this life-threatening disease through repeated awareness campaigns in form of seminars, walks and symposiums etc. Besides remaining alert and vigilant to immediately detect the case for immediate onward referral to AIDS Treatment Centre in Islamabad.
