Multan-Pushing the wheels of their chairs with a passion to win the race, the cheeks of special children glowed with bliss as they participated in a competition held here at Divisional Sports Ground during Multan Special Persons Festival 2013 on Tuesday.

"It's great fun. I am enjoying a lot. We need more events like this," said a special child Hamza while talking to this scribe at Divisional Sports Ground. Clad in colourful clothes, the special children cheered up and participated in all events enthusiastically.

The festival was jointly organized by the City District Government, Special Education Department, Crescent Lions Club, Society for Special Persons and New Sahara Welfare Organization in connection with International Day for Special Persons.

Earlier, a wheelchair rally was also organized to create awareness on rights of special persons. The rally started from Kalma Chowk and terminated at Sports Ground. The gala was attended by visually impaired, deaf and dumb and children with other physical disabilities. Besides sporting events, national songs competition, musical concert, tableaus and other activities were also held during the festival. Speaking on this occasion, the District Coordination Officer (DCO) Zahid Saleem Gondal said that special persons were an important portion of our society and they should be given special attention.

He lauded the passion of Zahida Hameed Qureshi, chairperson of Society for Special Persons, saying she was a role model for entire society as she did not let her impairment block her way and made achievements even more than normal persons.
