LAHORE-President PML-Q Punjab Ch Pervaiz Elahi called on Governor Punjab Salman Taseer at the latter's Cavalry Ground residence here on Tuesday. According to a source, District Nazims issue figured prominently in their meeting. Former Chief Minister Punjab Pervaiz Elahi appreciated Salman Taseer for his unwavering support extended to the unhappy and disgruntled Nazims, who had been protesting against the PML-N govt in the Punjab for its alleged malicious advertisement campaign aimed at defaming the elected representatives, constitutionally heading the district administrations across the province, but have become toothless since the present administration has taken over. Apparently, for Pervaiz Elahi it was a continuation of the meeting, which he had with District Nazims at his residence on Monday (February 2). It was the meeting, chaired by Pervaiz himself, in which the Nazims had given him the go ahead to outline a strategy for the protection of the Local Government System. He had assured the Nazims that he would take all possible steps for the continuation of the system. They had also declared him custodian of the system. Pervaiz Elahi, under whose stint as the then CM Punjab the LG System got strong, was of the considered opinion that the PML-N had first paralysed the LG system, and is now bent upon abolishing it at any cost. The source confided that Salman Taseer had told Pervaiz Elahi that upon President Asif Ali Zardari's return to Pakistan from Dubai, the Governor would make all possible efforts for arranging a meeting of the District Nazims with Zardari by the coming weekend. Both Salman and Pervaiz also dilated upon the working of CM Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, with specific reference to his harsh attitude towards the Nazims, who have virtually no ground to stand on though the Punjab Local Government Ordinance 2001 is still constitutionally protected, and the LG System is supposed to be functioning smoothly. They also discussed the Long March for the reinstatement of the deposed judges, for which the PML-N had already announced its full support and participation sans using official resources. The political circles are considering the meeting to be crucial considering the fact that both the PPP and PML-Q had jointly boycotted the Punjab Assembly on February 2 to protest against the police attitude towards one of the PPP's MPAs. On other hand, both parties are being considered as coalition partners in the Punjab if the PML-N govt would be thrown out of power. Another source said that major change is being expected in the Punjab by the 15th of the current month. Both leaders reviewed power-sharing formula if PML-N govt is toppled. 'In that case, the PPP would have another uncomfortable partner in the Punjab if the former joins hands with the Q-League," commented the source, adding, that Salman Taseer had invited Pervaiz Elahi and Moonis Elahi on dinner, while Media Adviser to Governor Farrukh Shah was also present on the occasion. Meanwhile, PML-Q leader Muhammad Ali Durrani has said Pervaiz Elahi's meeting with the Governor Punjab was his individual act, and if the former CM tried to join hands with the PPP, it would be Chaudhrys solo flight. He further said Chaudhrys coalition with the PPP would leave him alone, as the PML-Q would not back them.
