A Division Bench of Islamabad High Court (IHC) Monday dismissed an Intra-Court Appeal (ICA) challenging the provision of bulletproof vehicle and adequate security to former Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice (Retd) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary. The DB comprising Justice Riaz Ahmad Khan and Justice Noor-ul-Haq N Qureshi rejected the ICA moved by Riaz Hanif Rahi Advocate. However, the DB accepted his application against the imposition of fine by a single bench of IHC in this matter.Rahi had moved the ICA challenging the court’s verdict in which it had directed the government to immediately provide bulletproof vehicle and adequate security to former Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice (Retd) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary. He had prayed the court to set aside the verdict of a single bench of IHC dated January 1, 2014.Earlier, a single bench of IHC comprising Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui had also ordered that the family of the former CJP would also be entitled to use the vehicle. Justice Siddiqui remarked that if a bulletproof vehicle could be provided to a former prime minister then why it could not be given to a retired chief justice. He further remarked that Justice Chaudhry is an asset for the nation and he protected and safeguarded the constitution. The ministry should take the matter seriously as the former CJP faces serious life threats. The single bench of IHC bench announced the verdict on the petition seeking provision of security to the former CJP that was filed by the former President Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) Sheikh Ahsan-ud-Din Advocate.
