The newly established Women University Multan is likely to get a vast and well-equipped campus constructed on 115 kanals of land in the heart of the city as a proposal to transfer the building of Government College for Women Chowk Katchry to the varsity is under consideration. Similarly, the Prime Minister is learnt to have directed the local administration to allocate land for construction of Air University campus at an appropriate place.

This was disclosed by the District Coordination Officer (DCO) Zahid Saleem Gondal on Monday. He said that the proposal was being sent to the Board of Revenue for the transfer of land besides forwarding another proposal to the government for shifting college’s Rs67.6 million funds to the varsity.

The new university will have two campus in Multan including one in Matti Tal area and the other at Chowk Kachehri.

Addressing a meeting here, the DCO said that 27 kanal land allocated to the Women University in Matti Tal area was insufficient for growing needs and therefore the Degree College campus would be handed over to the varsity. He said that funds would be obtained from the government for accomplishment of university building in Kachehri Chowk campus.

The Vice Chancellor of the Women University Dr. Shahida Husnain said that the university had 16 departments out of which eight were science and as many arts. She disclosed that Genetic, Environment, Health Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Public Health, Medical Science, Dentistry and other departments would be set up in the varsity in future. “New disciplines are being set up in the university to meet the challenges of new era,” she added.
