ISLAMABAD - Former fast bowler Sarfraz Nawaz termed Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Governing Board members, chief selector Moin Khan, head coach Waqar Younis and captain Misbahul Haq responsible for the green caps worst ever defeats against Black Caps in the two warm-up matches and now in back-to-back One-day Internationals.

In an interview with The Nation, Sarfraz said: “Instead of keeping in mind the country's interest, Moin, Waqar and Misbah opted to select players on personal interest, which cost Pakistan dearly and their chances in the World Cup 2015 looked highly bleak until and unless a miracle occurs, but it looks highly unlikely.”

“I time and again requested PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan not to send Moin Khan with the team, but no heed was paid in this regard. My fears turn into harsh and biter reality as Moin is harming the entire atmosphere of the dressing room badly, and I request once again to the PCB chief to either call him back to home as early as possible or be ready for the worst results in the World Cup,” he added.

About bowling department, he said it lacked experience and cutting edge, which was once the hall mark of Pakistan bowling. “Four key bowlers are missing from Pakistan team including Saeed Ajmal, M Hafeez, Umar Gul and Junaid Khan while I am very surprised on what grounds, Sohail Tanveer was not considered for the selection, as he had played in both conditions and could have helped the team in both bowling and batting. All these bowlers were playing for the national team for the last 2 to 3 years, but all of a sudden due to one reason or another, they were overlooked.

“The PCB is responsible for Saeed Ajmal saga, as they had complete information about the ground realities, but they kept on sleeping and same lenient policy was adopted, which resulted in Ajmal’s absence in the mega event. All the top teams of the world had been considering Pakistan bowling as one of the most lethal and dangerous, but with the key bowlers’ absence, it is even less than ordinary bowling attack,” he added.

“Junaid and Umar were highly overused which resulted in their fitness issues and Anwar Ali should have been selected as he is a genuine all-rounder. I had mentioned even ordinary matches couldn’t be won with part-timers, winning world cup with make-shift bowlers is not more than day-dreaming. Haris Sohail is under tremendous pressure just because of double responsibility. His batting also suffered a great deal. Bowling in UAE conditions is different while fast, bouncy and wind bowling conditions are different prospect altogether. No one can expect wonders from Younus and Ahmed Shahzad bowling and I don't know why Wahab Riaz is not playing and I know why Yasir Shah is kept out from the playing XI. If Yaisr manages to pick few wickets than Afridi's place will be under threat, that is the reason why Yasir is not involved so far,” Sarfraz asserted.

He said the way M Irfan was bowling in the second ODI, indicated that he was not fully fit and lacked aggression and venom in his bowling. “If Irfan is not fully fit or feeling some issues, then Pakistan hopes in the World Cup could suffer body blow.

Ehsan Adil is not fulfilling the role required from him and same is the case with Sohail Khan. What kind of a team is selected by the chief selector for the mega event and on what grounds, the PCB chairman approved the list. I am surprised and want to know the exact reason of selecting such a weak squad for such a high-profile event, no one else but only the PCB chief will be responsible for the worst ever results,” Sarfraz concluded.
