KARACHI - At least five people were killed in different incidents of target-killings in the City on Saturday. In the first incident, an activist of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat Abdul Aziz, 28, was killed by alleged workers of Sunni Tehreek after he refused to close shop on the request of the local party workers, which had called for a strike on Saturday to protest attacks on Data Darbar. His brother Abdul Razzak and Umar Hamza were also hit. We were sitting in front of the shop and Aziz was dealing with customers when these goons arrived and asked him to close his shop, Abdul Razzak said. After exchange of arguments, he said the goons fired at my brother and also targeted me. The incident occurred at Ikhlaq Chowk, Macchar Colony in the limits of Docks Police Station. SHO Sohail Akhtar said that members of Sunni Tehreek had warned the shopkeepers and traders to remain at home and abstain from going to their businesses. We suspect the involvement of Sunni Tehreek activists in the incident, he went on to say. Ehsanullah Farooqui, spokesperson of Ahle-Sunnat Wal Jamaat said that he was a worker of ASWJ. Sunni Tehreek activists killed him, he alleged. Three people, Noor, Sharif and Hashim, were nominated in the FIR. Separately, Shoaib Baloch, son of Peer Bux, former UC councillor and an activist of the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party was killed in front of BBC Hotel, Bakra Pedi Road in the limits of Malir City Police Station. DSP Imdad Solangi suspected he was killed by some people from the same area. We will soon arrest the culprits, he hoped. Enraged people blocked roads and protested against the murders in different parts of Malir. The situation remained tense in the area and heavy contingent of police and Rangers were sent to the area in order to thwart any untoward incident. The victim used to run a jewellery shop and he was going to get marry on 1st of August. In another incident of target killing, Ramesh Kumar, 35, son of Parumal was going in his Alto car AGR-214 when four people riding two bikes ambushed him. They sprayed his car with bullets. The bodies of Ramesh Kumar and his driver Saiful Farooque were taken to the Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre (JPMC). He was targeted near Najam mosque, Tipu Sultan signal at Shaheed Millat road in the premises of Ferozabad police station. Police said he was father of four children and hailed from Nawab Shah. He was a builder by profession and resided in Gulistan-e-Jauhar. His driver Saiful Farooque was a resident of Sargodha. In other incident, the body of Gul Sher, 27, was recovered from Sahib Dad Goth in the premises of Saudabad police station. Police said he was a criminal and had close contacts with gangsters. Police have started investigation into his murder. Police suspect that during distribution of looted money, his partner killed him. No case was registered till filing of this report.
