LAHORE - Senior Minister Punjab, Raja Riaz Ahmad has announced that the contract employees would be made permanent by June 30, while the overtime of Secretariat staff car drivers, DRs and mechanics will also be increased from Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000 in the up-coming provincial budget. He was addressing the farewell ceremony arranged by Punjab Secretariat Employees Association of Drivers, Mechanics, DRs in honour of retired employees at the Committee Room of Civil Secretariat, here on Tuesday. Finance Minister Tanveer Ashraf Kaira and Additional Chief Secretary, Javed Aslam also attended the ceremony. In response to the demands of the association, the Senior Minister announced that the promotion of staff car drivers, DRs and mechanics would be decided in the committee to be headed by the Finance Minister. In case of an accident, the injured driver would be compensated within 12 hours and financial aid will be arranged through Baitul Maal or Zakat & Ushr departments, he further told. Likewise, the decision of 10 per cent Haj quota to Secretariat employees and 10 per cent Haj quota for Punjab Government employees will be taken in a special committee meeting. Raja Riaz maintained that the welfare of the lower cadre employees was the top priority of the government. On the occasion, ACS, Javed Aslam said that decision has been taken to promote 50 posts of drivers to grade-7 besides creating a post of Garage Superintendent. Later, the retired employees were given gifts. Copies of package handed over to allies The Pakistan People's Party has handed over copies of proposed Constitutional Package to other allied parties for review, while the MQM has not yet been given any copy of the package, but it can be despatched to it on demand if they decide to support the PPP move. This was stated by Raja Riaz while talking to the reporters at the Open Kechehri held at Bilawal House, Model Town, on Tuesday. Farooq Ghurki also attended the open court. Raja Riaz said the people would be given relief in the coming budget and said that the seven million 'Benazir Cards Scheme' would help in improving the economic conditions of the hapless and the grant money would be directly sent into their accounts. "When the PPP government came into power, the national kitty was empty but improving the economic conditions of the people is our top priority, he maintained. Earlier, Raja Riaz and Farooq Ghurki jointly held open court at Bilawal House and listened to the complaints and problems of the poor people who came from different parts of the province to get their problems solved. Both the Ministers ranged up the concerned departments for an early solution of the complaints of the people and also issued on the spot orders. The government, he said, had initiated a programme of holding open courts in Lahore and other parts of the province to help solve the problems of the people at their doorsteps.
