LAHORE-The Punjab Assembly session would be convened on June 6 or 7 for the oath-taking of President PML-N Mian Shahbaz Sharif as member Provincial Assembly, who has been elected unopposed from Bhakkar (PP-48), a seat vacated for him by Saeed Akbar Niwani, who was elected on two provincial seats. Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah confirmed late Tuesday night that Law Department had moved a summary to the Governor through Punjab Chief Minister for convening of Punjab Assembly session on June 6 or 7 to enable Shahbaz Sharif to take oath as member of Punjab Assembly. The Election Commission of Pakistan on Tuesday notified election of Shahbaz Sharif as member Punjab Assembly from Bhakkar. According to Assembly rules of procedure, if the Governor convenes the session on June 6, Shahbaz would take oath as member Punjab Assembly the same day. For election of the new Punjab Chief Minister, one day would be given for filing of nomination papers. The election would take place the following day, on June 8, but if the Assembly meets on June 7, Shahbaz would be elected new Punjab CM on June 9. After being elected Chief Minister, Shahbaz would take oath of his office from Punjab Governor Salman Taseer, the same day. He is likely to seek vote of confidence from the House the following day. Shahbaz would also form his own Cabinet. While all present Cabinet members would be retained in the new Cabinet, it would be expanded to accommodate around a dozen more Ministers. It has been learnt that present Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Dost Muhammad Khosa would resign alongwith his cabinet on the day Shahbaz Sharif takes oath as member Punjab Assembly. The Governor would, however, ask him to continue to perform duties as CM alongwith his Cabinet till election of the new Chief Minister as the office cannot be left vacant even for a single day according to the Constitution. Law Minister told The Nation that whole process of electing new Chief Minister would be completed by June 10 and Shahbaz Sharif would be Chief Minister when new Punjab budget is presented in the Assembly. The budget session, he said, would start from June 14. Earlier, the Law Minister had a detailed meeting with Speaker Punjab Assembly, Rana Muhammad Iqbal late Tuesday night in latter's Assembly chamber, and discussed with him all legal aspects regarding election of new Punjab Chief Minister.
