TEHRAN - Advocating Islamic values and norms, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, President of Islamic Republic of Iran has said that liberal democracy had failed to address the needs and expectations of the mankind. Like Marxism, the Western world introduced liberal democracy now generating complications and hardships rather than provision of immediate justice, protection of human rights and upholding of human values, the Iranian President remarked while addressing delegates from various foreign countries at the Parliament House on Wednesday. In his brief but comprehensive speech, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad highlighted the Islamic values while insisting on human dignity, respect and provision of justice. Around 600 delegates from 60 countries, mostly from Muslim world assembled in Tehran in connection with death anniversary of the late revolutionary and spiritual leader Ayatullah Imam Khomeini. The gathering, to be addressed by Iranian leaders, is likely to be attended by millions of people from all over Iran. It is worth mentioning that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is in the run for second term in the elections to be held on June 12, 2009. In his address to foreign delegates he said nothing regarding Irans internal and external issues but he focused his views on Islamic values after paying rich tributes to the late Imam Khomeini. Paying glowing tributes to the founder of Islamic Revolution of Iran, President Mahmud Ahmedinejad said, Imam Khomeinis political thoughts and struggle were in accordance with the sayings of Prophet Mohammad (SEW). Elaborating his point of view, he said that Imam Khomeini never advocated for the interests of a particular class but he always talked about human dignity, rights and problems in general. He said that Imam Khomeini after heroic struggle for restoration of Islamic identity of Iran had framed a structure, which was based on justice to each and every one without any discrimination. Advocating in favour of Islamic norms, President Ahmadinejad said, Like Marxism, liberal democracy is also close to erosion. Liberal democracy introduced and upheld by the Western and American world had failed in providing immediate justice and relief to the human beings. In this system, only a limited selected people were governing overwhelming majority without addressing its genuine needs and rights. Even this type of democracy had failed to ensure protection of mankinds rights and interests. Even, he said, this liberal democracy was now leading to generation of complications and hardships for common men in each and every nook and corner of the country. On such grounds, he said that it seemed hard for the Western world to introduce democratic system to address the genuine needs of the mankind. Similarly, President Mahmud Ahmadinejad diverted attentions towards unrest and sense of deprivation amongst people from other religious beliefs like Christians, Hindus and Buddhists. He said that Christians were now waiting for the return of Jesus, whereas Hindus and Buddhists were always telling that they were waiting for a noble man to lead the world at this crucial stage. On the other hand, the Iranian President said that Islam was against discrimination, aggression and violence. Islam, according to him, was stressing on equal treatment of mankind without any distinction of race, religion and colour. In this connection, he said, all of them needed to go for portraying true picture of Islam, which was possible while demonstrating unity amongst their ranks and going ahead according to the sayings and directives of Mohammad (PBUH).
