ISLAMABAD -The Interim Committee of Pakistan Olympics Association (POA) is all set to invite International Olympic Committee (IOC) ban on Pakistan as they had announced to hold Pakistan Olympic Association elections on July 5.

A meeting of the POA interim committee was held here on Monday in which the dates were finalised to hold the POA elections on July 5. Earlier, the interim committee had decided to hold the POA elections on July 28 but all of a sudden the proposed date was changed to July 5.

It is pertinent to mention here that the IOC had strictly warned the entire concerned not to interfere in the POA affairs and they had clearly mentioned the name of Lt Gen (retd) Arif Hassan as legitimate person and warned of severe action against Pakistan if government backed persons didn’t stop interfering in the POA affairs.

The POA interim committee is continuing to follow the dangerous path, which will ultimately result in ban on Pakistani athletes in participating in international events with the representation of green flag. It will neither hurt Gen Arif nor the interim committee, but it will definitely hurt the entire sporting fraternity, who has already been suffering from international isolation, as none of the international teams or players are coming to Pakistan citing so-called security concerns. The ban will spell complete disaster for all the talented athletes, who can win laurels for the country at international level.

It is the national and moral duty of the newly-elected Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to immediately intervene and take notice of the fast changing developments and stop all those persons, who are working against the cause of the country and bringing bad name to Pakistan at international level. The PM in waiting has to act swiftly otherwise things can go out of hands.

The complete schedule is:

Nomination of electoral roll (June 14), nomination as candidate (June 18), nomination papers will be provided by the election commission, final date for submission of nomination papers (June 21), declaration of electoral rolls by interim committee of POA (June 23), scrutiny committee of the election commission meeting for scrutiny of nomination papers and announcement of decisions (June 24), final date for filling of objections against electoral roll (June 25), final date of appeals against rejection of nomination papers (June 28), date of hearing of appeals on objections to electoral roll (June 30), date of hearing of appeals and decisions against rejection of nomination papers (June 30), notification of final list of nomination papers/electoral roll (July 2) and elections (July 5).
