Multan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) President Khawaja Muhammad Usman has said that unnecessary delay in the completion of Multan International Airport has not only put extra burden on national exchequer because of increase in its cost but also rendered exporters unable to fulfil the orders received from USA and Japan for the supply of mango.

In a statement issued here on Friday, the MCCI president said that the Multan International Airport project was introduced by the PPP government and the local business community was told that direct cargo flights would operate from Multan to London, Toronto, Frankfurt, Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Bahrain and other destinations. However, no direct international cargo flight took place from Multan so far. He demanded the government to take immediate steps to make Multan airport operation for international flights.

The Multan international airport project was launched by Gilani government in 2011 and Rs4.5 billion was allocated for the first phase of the project. The project was to be completed in December 2012 but it is still incomplete.
