SIALKOT -The surgical instruments exports have jumped to $300 million from US$ 265 million while the industries have potential of increasing the surgical exports to US$ 500 million, said the chief of an industrial body.

Addressing the Annual General Meeting of Surgical Instruments Manufacturers Association of Pakistan, its Chairman Bilal Ameen said that most of the developed countries imported Sialkot-made surgical instruments from Pakistan for resale purposes.

 He revealed that the surgical Industry was export oriented while craftsmanship industry was more than 100 years old.

He narrated that the surgical industry was producing over 10,000 medical instruments covering all sections of surgical, dental, veterinary, beauty and so many other products. He added that about 500,000 people directly or indirectly were benefiting from the industry. Ninety-nine percent production of surgical industry was being exported as the industry was earning $300 million foreign exchange for Pakistan, he revealed.
