Colgate-Palmolive goes ‘Pink’

LAHORE (PR): Softlan, Pakistan’s premier fabric conditioner brand, hosted an informative session on breast cancer in collaboration with Pink Ribbon Pakistan at the Colgate-Palmolive Head Office for Lakson Group employees. This session was part of the continuing series of activities jointly carried out by Softlan and Pink Ribbon in order to promote breast cancer awareness among females in Pakistan. Male and female employees of the Lakson Group were seen wearing pink to show their support towards the cause.

Sonia Qaiser, representing Pink Ribbon Pakistan, briefed the participants on some alarming but real statistics. A quiz on Softlan and Pink Ribbon was also conducted towards the end of the session and prizes were handed over to the winners

Metro’s donation to Edhi

LAHORE (PR): Bouzeneth Benaouda, Managing Director MCCPK, visited Edhi Foundation facility in Town Ship area Lahore. He was greeted by Sibghat Ullah, Zonal Incharge EDHI Foundation Lahore, who escorted METRO team during the facility visit. Bouzeneth Benaouda met children lodging at this facility in person and spent some time between them. He also donated non-food items to the school which will help the school management to build resources to support these children.

Intel representative at RIS

ISLAMABAD (PR): Teachers of Roots International Schools were trained by Intel representative Ms Rubina Jahangir during a 3 days session which covered the essential modules on classroom teaching.

Roots International Schools organized Intel training including a series of free, high interest, professional development courses that provide deep exploration of 21st century learning concepts. Each course was modular, with interactive activities and exercises to help access the content. Around 500 teachers from nationwide RIS campuses participated in this interactive workshop.

The Trainer Rubina Jahangir covered the project based approach, collaboration and assessment approach. After covering these courses participants showcased their initial ideas for the project in form of presentations as a post training activity.

The training had been organized to equip the teachers with establish a familiarity with project-based learning, technology integration, student-centered assessment practices, and questioning strategies. RIS has been Intel Learning partner for more than two decades and has integrated the Intel education philosophies as a core methodology. All the teachers are trained by trainer provided by Intel.

Heads and faculty members of different branches of RIS from all over the Pakistan were present in the intensive sessions of the training. The faculty gave a very positive feedback about the training by saying, ‘Today’s students live in a world that is extremely fast-paced, we have to keep pace with the changing paradigms in education. RIS is integrating technology in education to create a more interactive classrooms environment”

Through technology a teacher can create an instructional environment to facilitate the special needs of students, engaging them and granting reliable learning settings. Technology integration requires students to be active in using technology resources; computers, the internet, etc. This means that the students are expected to not just witness the teacher’s content but also connect to technology and perform actively.

Through this workshop Roots International Schools are paving a path  helping teachers and the students, engaging them in standards-aligned, technology supported learning that promotes the use of 21st century skills.

HabibMetro Bank posts Rs7.31b profit

KARACHI (PR): Habib Metropolitan Bank posted a profit-before tax of Rs. 7.31 billion for the year 2014, registering a year-on-year profitability boost of 43 per cent. The Bank achieved broad based organic growth, with its network expansion and resource mobilization driving growth across its business segments. The Bank’s Profit-After-Tax amounted to Rs 4.93 billion on December 31, 2014. Resultantly, HabibMetro’s EPS increased by 39.47 percent and marked at Rs. 4.70 at the end of 2014.

HabibMetro Bank’s total assets augmented by 27.6 percent compared to December 2013, and in doing so amounted to Rs. 397.3 billionon December 31, 2014. Meanwhile, the Bank’s deposit base exhibited an increase of over 29 percent – a growth that surpassed the industry’s deposit growth curve- andexceeded Rs. 320 billion. The Bank enhanced its outreach by 26 new branches and 13 new cities in the year 2014; this expansion increased its branch network to 240 branches in 62 cities across the country.

In a Board Meeting held recently, HabibMetro Bank’s Board of Directors recommended distribution of 25 percent dividend for the year 2014. Free medical camp

KARACHI (PR): A free chest diseases medical camp was organised by Latif Kapadia Memorial Welfare Trust at their MediHealth Clinic in Sualeh Mohamed Goth, Quaidabad. Dr Javaid A. Khan, FRCP (Edin), Chair National Alliance for Tobacco Control and Consultant Pulmonologist at Aga Khan University, conducted a presentation on the dangers of smoking, paan and gutka use to a rapt audience. Dr Javaid’s talk was accompanied by Free Spirometry testing by a team from NOVARTIS.

NBP, Ufone ink MoU

ISLAMABAD (PR): National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) inexorable efforts to develop the impoverished sector for the unemployed youth of Pakistan is the core component of the Bank’s integrated community strategy. Now, NBP has taken a new leap and signed an MOU with PakTelecom Mobile Ltd. (Ufone) during a ceremony held at Ufone Head office here.

Under this arrangement, Ufone and NBP have agreed to enter into this MoU for the provision of services related to Customized ICT Solution. In which Ufone will provide an extension of a SMS notification portal for NBP with customization for different pull and push notification.

 Ufone will handle the SMS and mobile application for banking related initiatives.

 It will also assist NBP for Contact Center services, which includes, provision of a CMS (Complaint Management System) and Call Center related services. Ufone will collaborate on MFS Solutions with NBP for providing the solution of Salary accounts and transfers, bill payments, advance salary loans, loans repayments and renewals. Ufone will also assist NBP in Pension Disbursement and brand promotion through various co-branding initiatives e.g. Debit Card.
