A mother of two was allegedly burnt alive by her sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws over a property dispute here in Shujabad area on Tuesday.

The husband namely Naveed Bodla, a schoolteacher, also sustained serious burns while trying to save the life of his deceased wife, Shakila, 30, and was shifted to Nishtar Hospital Multan. The residents of the area claimed that the ill-fated couple repeatedly called the police but no cop reached the spot. They also told police that a legal battle was underway between the burnt couple and the attackers on the ownership of the house, where the tragedy took place.

The injured husband Naveed Bodla told the police that his brothers - Waseem, Nadeem and Waheed along with sisters Kishwar, Shazia and Nadia stormed into his house and ordered the family to vacate the building. When the family resisted the intruders’ bid, they allegedly sprinkled petrol on Shakila and set her on fire. She died on the spot and her body was shifted to city morgue for autopsy.

The Shujabad City police reached the spot after the incident and took the body into custody.  Police were conducting raids to arrest the accused.
