LAHORE - Adviser to Chief Minister on Health Kh Salman Rafiq has directed third party validation of indoor and outdoor dengue surveillance particularly in Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Multan and Sheikhpura districts.

Chairing meeting of Cabinet Committee on Dengue at Civil Secretariat yesterday, he directed making dengue counters at hospitals effective and patient friendly. Senior officers including DCOs of Lahore and Sheikhpura attended the meeting. Commissioners and DCOs of Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Multan participated in the meeting through video link.

The meeting was briefed about the indoor-outdoor dengue surveillance activities by different departments. The officers of Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) and the Special Branch pointed out gaps in surveillance and arrangements in the hospitals. It was informed that majority of private hospitals were not providing data regarding dengue patients. Moreover, there was need to improve dengue patient reporting system of public sector hospitals.

The convener of Dengue Experts Advisory Group (DEAG) and Vice Chancellor of KEMU Prof. Faisal Masood will also attend the meeting to sensitize the administrative doctors regarding standard operating procedures (SOPs) of patient care management.
