TOBA TEK SINGH/HAFIZABAD-On the call made by district and tehsil bar associations, lawyers here went on strike and boycotted court proceedings on different issues on Tuesday.

The District Bar Association of Toba Tek Singh observed strike over alleged misbehaviour of Food Department official Rizwan Khan with two lawyers and against Rajana police which had registered a case against them.

DBA President Farrukh Iqbal and Secretary General Salman Ghani said in a press release said that Pervez Khan and his son Umer Pervez had gone to have their files registered so as to get gunny bags for selling their wheat produce. However, they added, the official misbehaved while the police registered a case against them. Layers also took out a rally in the district courts complex and announced to stage a sit-in for a week to protest against the role of police and administration in the incident.

In Hafizabad, the lawyers of District Bar Association (DBA) Hafizabad and TBA Pindi Bhattian boycotted courts proceedings to protest against “what they called” misbehaviour of District and Sessions Judge and some other judges.

The DBA and TBA through resolutions demanded immediate dismissal of the Sessions Judge. According to DBA General Secretary Rai Waqar Hussain Kharal, the Sessions Judge indulged in corruption and also used immoral and irresponsible language towards the lawyers. He said that the Sessions Judge is a dishonest administrative officer and his behaviour with most of the lawyers is insulting and intolerable.

The general secretary alleged that the Sessions Judge is favouring only a few lawyers to achieve his, what he dubbed, vested interests.

The DBA and TBA have called on the Lahore High Court Chief Justice to dismiss the Sessions Judge immediately and order an impartial inquiry against his conduct. He said that lawyers would continue boycott of the courts till dismissal of the Sessions Judge.
