LAHORE - Parts of the country including Lahore received rains with gusty winds yesterday, providing respite to the heat stricken people by causing considerable decrease in the mercury level.

Overcast conditions, winds and rains made weather pleasant by decreasing temperature during the day and at nighttime. Experts have forecast more rains with gusty winds during the next 24 hours.

In Lahore, overcast conditions, strong winds and scattered drizzle caused decrease in the mercury level, bringing pleasant change in weather.

Maximum temperature decreased by 07 degree Celsius, ending up at 37C. Minimum temperature was recorded 26C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded 32 per cent.

According to the experts, low pressure lies over north Balochistan and adjoining areas with its trough extending eastward. A fresh westerly wave is affecting upper and central parts of the country and may persist till Thursday.

Local meteorological department has forecast cloudy weather with chances of rain and gusty winds for Lahore during the next 24 hours. Rain-thundershower with gusty winds is expected at scattered places in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Fata, Islamabad, upper Punjab (Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sahiwal and Faisalabad divisions), Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir and at few places in south Punjab ( Multan, Bahawalpur and DG khan divisions), Quetta, Kalat, Zhob and Sibbi divisions. Hot and dry weather is expected elsewhere in the country.

On Monday, mercury was 2-4 degree Celsius above normal level in plains. In Lahore mercury touched 44C, making Monday the hottest day of current summer.

Meteorological experts are seeing some respite for the heat stricken people during this week.

Prevailing westerly wave can give scattered rains, dust raising winds in parts of the country till Thursday.
