LAHORE - Punjab Police Inspector General Arif Nawaz Khan has said that all available resources should be utilized to ensure foolproof security for mourning processions and sittings during the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) in all districts of the province.

The IGP expressed these views while addressing a video link RPOs conference at the central police office on Friday. Additional-IG Ejaz Hussain Shah, Faisal Shahkar, Muhammad Tahir, Tariq Masood Yasin, Azhar Hameed Khokhar, DIG Salman Chaudhary, and Wasim Sial were also present on this occasion.

The IGP directed the officers to fully implement the SOP devised for the security of mourning processions. He said that snipers, plainclothesmen, and police commandos should be deployed on the top of high-rise buildings for security of central processions of Chehlum. 

The main processions should be given three-layer security and all the participants should be checked with the help of metal detectors and walkthrough gates at the entry points. He also directed the Lahore police to leave no stone unturned for provision of security to all mourning processions.

The police chief said that the Lahore police should implement a comprehensive security plan for the annual Urs of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh.  He further said that search, sweep, and combing operations should be carried out in hotels, inns, guesthouses and around the important shrines.  The owners of hotels, guesthouses, and inns should be contacted on a daily basis to check suspected elements. The IGP was informed during the conference that more than sixty thousand police officers, officials and PQRs will perform security duties on the eve of Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) across the province. 

The IGP also ordered the force that violators of Loudspeaker Act should be dealt with iron hands irrespective of their status. He also said that Front Desk is a public service project and it should be monitored regularly on the pattern of Lahore Police.

While reviewing the arrests of proclaimed offenders in Punjab, the IGP appreciated the efforts of Faisalabad RPO Bilal Siddique Kamyana. He also said that all RPOs and DPOs should prepare arrest plans on the pattern of Faisalabad Region so that the arrest ratio of POs could be increased throughout the province.  The IGP also issued directions to all RPOs and DPOs stating that a comprehensive security plan must be devised for the security of A-category processions and Majaalis.   He further said that before deployment of police personnel in the field, they should be briefed about their duties and strategies in all aspects.  All procession routes should be monitored through CCTV cameras and video recording of all processions also be ensured. The IGP said that special teams should be constituted to monitor the security arrangements and they must stay in touch with main Control Room set up at the central police office.
