Police and protesters clash left 25 persons including two DSPs and eight police officials injured here on Tuesday.

The clash took place on Deepalpur Road near village Dolaywala. The situation turned violent when hundreds of villagers staged a protest against police over its failure to arrest the accused who allegedly had sodomized and raped hundreds of minor boys and girls. They alleged that the accused later kept on extorting money from the affected families, using videos of the inhumane acts to blackmail them.

A large number of police personnel cordoned off the road near village Dollaywala to stop the protesters from marching towards Lahore where they were scheduled to stage a sit-in in front of the Punjab Assembly and Lahore Press Club.

Following failure of the negotiations between the police and the agitators, the protesters started marching ahead but they were intercepted by police. At which, the protesters started pelting the cops were stones, prompting the police to baton charge and tear gas shelling.

As a result, DSP City Hassan Farooq Ghuman, DSP Saddr Arif Rasheed, cops including Akbar, Sajid, Riaz, Naeem, Ahmed Ali, Akbar Ghani and Muhammad Akmal suffered injuries. At least 15 protesters including Waqas, Arshad, Saleem, Zubair, Muhammad Ali and Yaseen sustained injuries. Cameramen of Waqt TV Muhammad Naeem and Waqas Ahmed also got injuries during the clash.

The injured were rushed to DHQ Hospital. sLater, the protesters again gathered at Kashmir Chowk and made violent speeches against the police. However, this time there was no police officials at Kashmir Chowk to pacify the charged protesters.

When the protesters reached New Bus Terminal on Ferozpur Road, Regional Police Officer Sahibzada Shahzad Sultan reached there and spoke to them. He assured the protesters that the remaining accused of “the case” would be arrested and their challens would be submitted in the court within five days. At which the protesters dispersed.
