SWAT - The General Officer Commander (GOC) Malakand Division, Major General Asif Ghafoor has announced to build a monument for The Nation’s slain staffer Siraj ud Din in Swat.

The GOC made the announced after acknowledging Siraj’s valued services rendered in the field of journalism.

It is pertinent to mention that Siraj-ud-Din was a devoted journalist and associated with the field for more than two decades. During the rise of Taliban in Swat valley, he received many threats from them to stop reporting the reality and report the situation as per their desire.

He became victim of the suicide attack on the funeral congregation of DSP Javed Iqbal on 29th February 2008 at Mingora Swat. 

Siraj ud din was the first amongst the journalist who rendered their lives for restoration of peace and press in the valley.

The family of the slain journalist expressed gratification over the GOC’s announcement. The journalist communities across the country appreciated the announcement of a monument in remembrance of the martyred journalist.
