ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Raheel Sharif yesterday discussed national and regional security at a meeting here, officials said.

General Sharif called on the prime minister here for a one-on-one meeting, an official statement said. Officials said the two held consultation over various matters pertaining to national and regional security.

The PM and army chief also reviewed the ongoing Zarb-e-Azb operation and expressed their satisfaction over prevailing security situation in the country.

The issue of Kashmir and the Indian brutalities also came under discussion in the meeting, said an official.

This was the second meeting between the PM and the army chief in less than around two weeks. They earlier had a sitting on the sidelines of a National Security Committee meeting last month. The July meeting had come after a gap of two months.

Prime Minister Sharif recently returned to work in Islamabad after an open heart surgery in London in May. The Pakistan People’s Party and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf have been pressing the PM to quit to ensure fair investigations into the Panama scandal.
