PESHAWAR – Awami National Party, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter, President Senator Afrasyab Khattak said on Saturday that there was no threat to democracy as all conspiracies being hatched against democracy and existing set up had been failed.

He said this while presiding over the meeting of the ANP provincial cabinet, which met here. Besides others, ANP provincial general secretary Arbab Tahir, senior vice president Baz Mohammad Khan, vice president Abdul Latif Afridi, Mian Mushtaq, Engineer Abbas Khan, Hameed-ur-Rehman Mohammadzai, Shagufta Malak, Haroon Bilour, and secretary information Malak Ghulam Mustafa also attended the meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, Senator Afrasyab Khattak said that since long certain elements were bent towards derailing the existing setup, adding that they were also hatching conspiracies against the government, but all such designs have failed at all. So, “I will say that there is no threat to democracy,” he said.

He maintained that Senate elections would be held on the scheduled time and the present government would complete its tenure. He said that during the meeting they agreed to launch political activities in Fata soon. He said they would pass on party manifesto to each and every person in the province and Fata.

He said that they would press the Federal Government to launch more developmental projects in the tribal areas so as to end the backwardness in these ever-neglected areas, adding that people would be contacted for giving representation to Fata in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.  The Senator said that Fata was a part of their body, as their culture, region, language and traditions were the same and there was no way other than giving representation to Fata in KP Assembly.  He said it would help tribesmen resolve their longstanding problems and demands.

During the ANP provincial cabinet meeting, a committee to be headed by Abdul Latif Afridi was formed on Fata.

Other members of the committee are Arbab Mohammad Tahir Khan, Nisar Lala from Waziristan, Sheikh Jan Zada, from Bajaur Agency, Burhanudeen from Khyber Agency and Abdur Rahim from Mohmand Agency.  The committee would contact the tribesmen and get their point of views about starting political activities in Fata.  Various office-bearers of the party also presented reports of the ANP in their respective areas and districts as well as presented suggestions as how to make the party further stronger in these areas.

At the end of the meeting, it was decided to observe the death anniversary of Ajmal Khattak on February 12, 2012. In this connection, a function would be held at Bacha Khan Markaz on the same day.
