KARACHI - An assistant sub-inspector and a nineteen-year-old girl were killed when unidentified bandits opened indiscriminate firing in order to avoid their arrest in Sher Shah area on Saturday. Officials of the Sher Shah Police Station claimed that two bandits were also injured.

Rahimullah, 46, who was working for the intelligence wing, was leaving his house for an official work when locals informed him that some bandits were robbing a steel shop near Miran Naka.

The officer headed towards the shop to capture the dacoits. On seeing him, the dacoits opened fire on him, killing him instantly. A teenage girl, Rida Munir, who was standing near the crime scene, also sustained gunshot wounds and later died. Her family took her body from the Civil Hospital Karachi without any medico-legal formalities.

ASI Rahimullah was the father of seven children and lived in Rasheedabad, Baldia Town. He was posted to the Sher Shah Police Station for the past five years.

DIG West Imran Yaqoob Minhas informed that the ASI was in plain clothes and at the time of the incident, he was going on his motorcycle when area people informed him that around three bandits were busy in looting a shop.

The DIG claimed that two of the bandits were also injured when the ASI retaliated, but they managed to flee from the scene somehow. The police are searching for the injured dacoits at private and government hospitals. No case was registered till the filing of this news-story.
