ISLAMABAD (NNI) - The government plans to launch new schemes for the protection and economic empowerment of women during the current fiscal year. Sources say an amount of one hundred and ninety million rupees has been allocated for the purpose. They said that thirty nine new Shaheed Benazir Bhutto crisis centers will be established at the district level to provide temporary shelter, basic legal, medical and counseling services to the needy women. Each center is planned to serve about one thousand to fifteen hundred cases annually. The planned centers also include nine women centers to be established in the earthquake affected districts with coordination of ERRA. Three new initiatives have also been planned for extending micro credit facility to women folk to help them start their own businesses. Under a project, Vocational Dastkari schools will be established to equip the women with the necessary training skills.
