With Cyber Crime Bill being in public interest again, everyone seems to be concerned about their privacy and freedom of speech. The bill has clauses that might be beneficial in securing the use of internet and in minimising the detrimental threats that arise from social media. But, it also suggests snatching the freedom of speech – a civil right. With Pakistan being highlighted as a state moving towards liberalism and all the political rhetoric on democracy, I wonder why we appear socially conservative on the inside. The government’s apprehension of unethical post as well as the way onslaught, as soon as the bill gets passed, is to happen remain the chief concern. However, the bill seems to curb the freedom of speech Instead of protecting the civilians from the harms and ills of internet.
