Accountability Court (AC) No 4 here Friday has acquitted former chairman of Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) Usman Farooqi from the corruption case. In the previous hearing Raza Hashmi, counsel for Usman Farooqi had argued that the case against his client was registered with malafide attention and his client had no relevance with the corruption case at all. The court had reserved its judgment till March,5 which had been pronounced on Friday. It may be mentioned that the former chairman of Steel Mills Usman Farooqi was charged with causing loss to the tune of Rs 176 million to national kitty in the purchase deal of raw material in 1995. However the case was abolished under National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO). Following the pronouncement of judgment by Supreme Court (SC) against NRO, the case was reopened. Both the sides gave arguments. Lawyers for Usman Farooqi took the plea when the purchase deal was struck , Usman Farooqi was not the chairman of Steel Mills. In this regard notification was also presented. On Friday the court observed no evidence was found in support of Usman Farooqi's involvement in corruption case.
