GAZA CITY (AFP) - The Palestinian movement Hamas on Thursday banned men from working in womens beauty salons in the Gaza Strip. (Police) will go after anyone who violates this decision, and they will face questioning and legal accountability, the Hamas-run Gaza police said on their website. In recent months several womens hair salons in the Palestinian enclave have been blown up, apparently by fighters opposed to the mixing of men and unveiled women. No one has been killed in the blasts. Hamas has done little to impose Islamic law on Gaza since it seized power in June 2007, although it has long used missionary-style social programmes to spread Islamic values in the traditionally conservative territory.
