The growers of Hafizabad district have expressed their grave concern over the failure of the government for not arranging the procurement of paddy by PASSCO and other government agencies.

As a result, they added, the growers are being fleeced by the middlemen, who are purchasing the Basmati rice at Rs900 per 40 kg.

Addressing a press conference, Kissan Board Gujranwala Division President Amanuillah Chattha said that low price of rice has inflicted a loss of Rs30,000 per acre to the growers while the government has announced only Rs5,000 subsidy per acre, which, he said, is merely an eyewash.

He called upon the government to announce appropriate support price of all varieties of rice and ensure an early export of last year rice on emergency basis so as to stabilise the prices of different varieties of paddy to save the community from liquidation.

SECURITY: DPO Shakir Hussain Dawar has pledged that all the returning officers appointed for conducting local bodies elections in the district will be provided foolproof security.

He said that cops would cordon off the offices of all the ROs during office hours and ordered deployment of two Constables with each and every RO for their security. He has directed the Security officer Jameel Qaiser to call on all the ROs daily to enquire about their security and warned that no leniency would be tolerated in this respect.
