PESHAWAR/SWAT - A local leader of Awami National Party (ANP) was gunned down in Matta area of Swat on Saturday. A policeman was also injured in the firing incident.

According to police, unidentified gunmen opened fire in Matta area and killed ANP leader Muhammad Ashraf Khan and his bodyguard on the spot.

During the firing, a cop was also injured who was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment while the dead bodies were shifted to a hospital for medico-legal formalities. Ashraf Khan was also a member of peace committee in Swat.

Local police chief Sher Akbar Khan said that the latest incident came three days after militants slaughtered an official with the special police force nearby.
