ISLAMABAD - Cdre Imran Saeed won the net category of the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Amateur Golf Cup, which concluded here at Margalla Greens Golf Club.  Chief of Naval Staff Admiral M Zakaullah graced the occasion as chief guest. Asad Atique remained runner-up in net category while Ghanzafar Mehmood won the gross category and Tariq Mehmood remained runner-up in gross category. Maj Zahid Manan won the seniors net category, while Admiral MA Tahir was runner-up. Gulrez Shahid won the gross category, Zahid Afridi remained runner-up.

Rimsha Ijaz won ladies net category, followed by Aimen Ijaz as runner-up, Ami Qin won gross category, Tahira Nazir remained runner-up, Master Huzaifa Abbas won the juniors net category, Abdul Moiz Bin Aamir grabbed runner-up prize while Damil Attaullah grabbed gross juniors’ title. Adeel Shafqat grabbed second spot, Shakir Abbasi of Nai Baat won the media category of the longest drive. Azam Babar won Rs 3.5 million Toyota Terios as he managed to pocket hole in one.

Addressing the ceremony, CNS chief said: “All the golfers tasted a unique experience and memorable golfing moments at this scenic base of Margalla Hills, playing golf, whether professionally or as an amateur, requires athletic ability to walk long distances and hit long drives with consistent depth and aim, hence, the picturesque views and the greenery around, makes the game, the more worthwhile and entertaining. This event clearly shows that the club has come out of its infancy and is maturing to become an asset for the capital city.”

The Naval chief reiterated that the number of golfers increases every year, leaving a lasting impact on the minds and hearts of the players, throughout the country. “I hope that the ambience of this course and participation has given memories to be cherished for long.”

The Admiral thanked sponsors, Telenor, Indus motors company, Turkish Airline, cutting edge communication and coca cola abundantly, for extending their essential support, without which, this event could not have been a success and more importantly for keeping the spirit of golf, alive in the country. He also paid special gratitude to the media personnel for promoting and highlighting the championship through their coverage, leaving a positive impact of the country not only domestically, but also internationally.  At the end, prizes were distributed amongst the winners of all categories whereas the main trophy was given to the best amateur in the net category Cdre Imran Saeed from MGGC.
