KARACHI - Chief Justice of Sindh High Court, Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani said on Wednesday that the appointments of the judges in high court would be made in accordance with the apex court, while National Judicial Council (NJC) would decide the role of PCO judges. He stated this while addressing the Sindh High Court Bar Association (SHCBA) at his reception given by the lawyers here at Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry Hall. The CJ said that the PCO judges were not functioning after the recent verdict of the apex court and the NJC would give its decision over the career of the judges. He said that the judiciary had become independent after untiring movement of the lawyers against the restrictions imposed by the previous regime, adding that the legal fraternity should forget the bitter past and perform their duties honestly. The lawyers should remember the sacrifices of those, who gave sacrifices for the independence of judiciary that is remarkable not only for lawyers but also the entire nation. We should protect the independence of judiciary and people should be provided easy justice in all regards, said Justice Usmai. While commenting about the Financial Bill, he said that such bill had no connection with the high court, so the judges who took oath under Financial Bill, will not be reinstated. Regarding the complains about Sindh Bar Council, he made it clear that there was no any links of the council pertaining to the management of the high court, while action must be taken against the judges who were involved in corruptions. But it should be done after receiving evidences against them. He also announced to lift ban on the electronic media for the live-coverage of the activities in Sindh High Court, saying that the media has rights perfuming their duties without any restriction. Earlier, President of SHCBA, Rasheed A Rizvi, said that there in the reception, only those judges were invited who had faced the critical situation created by the dictator, while praising their commitment, he said that such judges are worthy of the most respectable status as they suffered a lot and bore the hardships in the worst regime in the country. He criticised the PCO judges by saying that such judges had given first priority to their jobs and avoided the constitution. On the occasion, the other lawyer representatives also expressed their views, while along with the Chief Justice of SHC; other judges of high court also attended the ceremony.
