ISLAMABAD - Advisor to Prime Minister on Finance Shaukat Tarin Wednesday said that the government had chalked out a strategy to face challenges being faced by economy on external front and security at home. A well-structured and coherent strategy has been put in place to meet these challenges for the socio-economic prosperity of the country and poverty reduction, said the advisor while addressing a seminar A decade of accomplishment: Ten years of Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF). Tarin who is destined to be Finance Minister after being elected as Senator said, the well-structured strategy included a systematic action plan to flow resources towards the root causes of these challenges. Poverty reduction, creation of economic opportunities and provision of resources and social services are essential components of our strategy, he explained. Cost-effective provision of services at the grassroots in the most difficult geographical terrain and then to explicitly focus on the most vulnerable and poorest is what we are focused on, he added. He reiterated that Pakistan had received generous commitments of assistance and funding form across the globe-multilateral and bilateral - in support of our cause. We have effective and efficient intermediation vehicles and mechanisms in place so that resources reach their intended recipients and beneficiaries, he claimed. As a proactive partner of the government, he said, PPAF is uniquely positioned with demonstrated absorption capacity to ensure that given the quantum of resources, the process is transparent and effective and impact is visible and tangible. We look forward to all stakeholders - international donors, civil society organizations, and above all poor communities themselves to collectively and jointly engage in this national endeavor, he hoped. In this respect, Tarin hoped that PPAF would be the governments principal vehicle of change for economic recovery and development and poverty reduction. Speaking on the occasion, Kamal Hyat highlighted the achievements of the PPAF and its vital role in the alleviation of poverty in the country.
