Air Marshal (retd) Mohammed Asghar Khan, a person I truly respect and admire, once said words to the effect that a country would indeed be in a pitiable condition if its destiny is in the hands of a deceased person, and the present-day Pakistan is being led by not one but two deceased leaders, which was an obvious reference to Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Zia-ul-Haq. In spirit, situation remains much the same even now and we know Bilawal had to go through a name-conversion process, from Bilawal Zardari to Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, to sort of establish his claim to the throne and President Asif Zardari has just declared himself to be a spiritual son of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, a fact has also been confirmed by no less a person than Senator Babar Awan. I wonder just how long will we continue to be ruled by deceased leaders? S.R.H. HASHMI, Karachi, December 3.
